Frequently asked questions
What is The Watch Party?
The Watch Party lets you rent films and host or join live "watch parties"
where you and invited friends watch the same film in sync — like a digital theater —
with optional live spatial voice audio. You can use it on the web and through our Apple, Android,
Roku, and Fire TV apps.
Which devices and platforms are supported?
You can use The Watch Party on the website
(watchpartytheater.com), on Apple iPhone and iPad and
Android phones and tablets via web, and on
Roku and Amazon Fire TV for the big screen. On phones
and tablets, films are watched via web; the Apple and Android apps let
you join parties, take a seat, and use live spatial voice audio. On TV you watch the film; spatial
voice audio runs on your phone or in your browser.
How do I create an account or reset my password?
Sign up with your email and a password on the website or in the app. To
change your password, open your account page while signed in. If you're locked out,
email
admin@watchpartytheater.com
from the address on your account and we'll help you reset it.
How do I rent a film or buy a ticket?
Browse the catalog, pick a film or party, and check out securely. You can
buy on the website and directly on the Roku and Fire TV
apps. On iPhone and Android, buy on the website
in your browser — the mobile apps don't sell rentals or tickets. Web payments are
processed by Stripe. A rental gives you a limited window to start and finish watching;
a ticket gives you access to a specific live party.
Are some films free? Why do I see ads?
Yes — selected films are free to watch, supported by ads.
A short ad may play before and during the film. Free titles are marked in the catalog;
paid rentals and watch parties have no ads. Which films are free can change over time.
How does the loyalty punch card work?
Rent five films and your sixth rental is free.
Every qualifying paid rental — on the web, Roku, or Fire TV — adds a punch; when your card
is full you get a free-rental reward you redeem on the website, and you can
watch it on any device. Your progress shows on the little ticket at the top of your
dashboard. (Free and comped rentals don't add punches.)
How do watch parties and seats work?
A host picks a film and a time and invites friends. When it starts,
everyone watches in sync. In parties with voice, you pick a seat in the theater grid and
hear others based on where they're sitting. You can join voice from your phone or
browser and mute yourself anytime; hosts can mute participants too.
Why does the film jump ahead when I join a party late?
Watch parties play in sync for everyone, so if you join after the film has
started it will jump forward a few times to catch up to where the group
is. That's expected — once it's caught up, it plays through smoothly.
Why can't I find a certain film for my watch party?
Rentals and watch parties are set per film, so a title
can be available one way but not the other. If a film isn't available for watch parties,
it simply won't appear in the film list when you create a party — even
though you may still be able to rent it and watch it on your own. (The reverse can happen
too: some films are watch-party exclusives and aren't offered as rentals.) A title you
can't find anywhere has been taken down entirely. Availability can change over
time, so it's worth checking back later.
The video won't play or voice isn't working — what should I do?
First, check your internet connection and refresh or reopen the app, then
try leaving the party and joining again — reconnecting clears most video
and voice glitches. For voice on mobile, make sure you've granted microphone
permission in your device settings. If it still isn't working, email us the device/platform
you're on and what happens, and we'll investigate.
How do I turn on subtitles or closed captions?
Many films include captions. Turn them on from the player's caption control:
on the web, use the CC button in the video player; on
Fire TV, open the playback controls and choose the subtitles
button; on Roku, press * (Options) during playback and
pick a subtitle track. If a film has no captions available, the option won't appear.
Can I get a refund?
Rentals and tickets grant access to digital content and live events, so
sales are generally final once access is granted. If a technical problem on our end
stopped you from watching something you paid for, contact us and we'll make it right.
See our
Terms of Use for details.
How do I delete my account or data?
You can delete your account yourself: go to your
Account page
on the web or in the app, open
Delete account, and confirm with your password.
This permanently removes your account and personal data, except records we're required to keep.
Prefer we do it? Email

from your account address. See our
Privacy Policy.
I'm a host — how do earnings and payouts work?
Hosts of open (public-ticketed) parties earn a share of ticket revenue.
Payouts aren't shown in the app — instead, you'll receive a
statement by email
(before or together with your payout) detailing what you earned. If you have a question
about a statement or payout, email
admin@watchpartytheater.com.
